Thrush

Thrush (candida infection of the nipples) can be the downfall of many a breastfeeding relationship. It can start a cycle of pain and frustration that may be difficult to overcome. Ending the cycle right away is very important. You and your baby need to be treated, even if your baby is symptomless. Yeast can be passed back and forth, so everyone needs to be treated. Remember that the primary cause of thrush in the breastfeeding relationship is antibiotics in labor. If you are given antibiotics or have to take them during your nursing relationship, it would be a good idea to supplement yourself with Acidophilus capsules. Here are several links to helpful sites.
